The Otters have signed their final group of players to round out the roster for the 2018 season. The group is diverse, including a goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder, and a forward, from a variety of different levels.
First is Grant Watson, the next player in a long line of local standouts that will get his shot with the Otters this summer. Watson was the goalkeeper at Science Hill High School before graduating last spring. He was an integral part of the Toppers, whose defense only allowed ten goals and finished with a 21-2 overall record last season. Science Hill also made it all the way to the state semifinals, before bowing out to eventual champions Station Camp. Watson was also voted Defender of the Year for the region by the Johnson City Press.
Josh Pruett was a part of the Otters inaugural team during the 2016 season. After a strong freshman season at Berry College, Pruett re-joins the Otters for another season. Pruett appeared in all 17 games, starting all but one. He also was able to contribute on offense by recording two assists from his right back position.
Guilherme Ávila is one of two players from Iowa Central Community College that will play for the Otters this season. The 6’1” Brazilian midfielder made 14 starts this past season, recording two goals and two assists and helped the Tritons finish with a 13-8 record.
Up top for the Tritons, Henrique Devens helped carry the offense all year, scoring 18 goals and adding another nine assists. The forward from Brazil had seven game-winning goals and finished tied for 26th and 27th in the entirety of the junior college ranks in goals and total points, respectively. Devens also generated 50 shots, and was able to put more than half (29) on target. He will be joining the Tusculum Pioneers as a transfer this fall.
