Montreat College Sends Four to Otters

Montreat College will have four players representing them on the Otters roster this season pending league approval. The Cavaliers were one of the best offenses in the NAIA and the Otters are hoping that scoring prowess will come with them to the Tri-Cities. The incoming group features two defenders and two midfielders, including two returning Otters from last season.

Liberian-born centerback Joseph Akpome made 18 appearances (17 starts) for Montreat this past season. Besides being a defensive standout, Akpome was able to show off his offensive capabilities, putting four shouts out of five on target.

One of the former Otters, Juan Carlos Ramirez will once again patrol the wings for the blue and green. In his sophomore season at Montreat, Ramirez made 17 appearances (all of them starts) and tallied five assists for the top offense in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Henrique Cardoso will join the Otters after a very successful sophomore season for the Montreat Cavaliers. The Portuguese midfielder made 15 starts for Montreat and recorded eight goals and eight assists. Cardoso was named All-Conference Second Team after leading the conference in assists per game and finishing top-five in points per game and assists. He was also named to the All-Academic Team for the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Jeovanni Ordaz also returns to the Otters after starting all 18 games for Montreat in his sophomore season. Ordaz scored 11 goals on 46 shots (30 on target) and added another four assists for the offense that lead the Appalachian Athletic Conference in goals per game, assists per game, and shots on goal per game. Individually, Ordaz finished top-five in the AAC in goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.

The first home game of the year for the Otters will be on June 6th at 7:00 PM at Kermit-Tipton Stadium. For more information regarding special events and tickets, please visit ottersoccer.com!
